To Love, Even the Simple Things, is a Beautiful Thing

Journal, Uncategorized, Writing · June 3, 2025

I picked up my embroidery project tonight after months of leaving the unfinished project resting. The project in question is a template kit my sister bought me for Christmas. A hoop, a few needles, a page of instruction on which stitches to use on which part of the animal. I’m about half following the instructions, half vibing it out, testing out stitches I learn about online and trying my hand at them. This project is hardly the end goal of my embroidery dreams, more-so my foray into embroidery. I’m loving it, piece by piece, months apart, when the urge strikes and I pick it up again. I would love to embroider my clothes—add embellishments to my jackets and jeans and maybe a shirt or two. I’ve learned the back stitch and the chain stitch so far and will add new ones soon..

As I work through the tutorial and practice my hand, I wonder why I let this project sit. I wonder, but I don’t dwell on it. I don’t feel the need; I’m enjoying the project, it needs none of my judgement. It is relaxing, pulling the stitches through, seeing the picture come together. I’m enjoying letting it be relaxing, letting it be fun to learn and to do so at my own pace. Starting projects, pausing them when I need to, picking them back up when the wind calls me to. It is a beautiful thing to have so many things I enjoy doing. It is a joy to learn something new. It is a thrill to teach myself new things, to add something new to my wheelhouse.
