I’m on the hunt for more fabric for the dress I’m sewing. I found two curtains at Goodwill last week that I will repurpose and use. One of them will be the feature fabric for the dress, but, as I suspected, the two do not go together as well as I would like, which means I need to hunt for some more. The curtain with the feature fabric would be enough to make the dress from, but I want to make a patchwork dress, which means I need a few more fabrics to intermix with the feature. I knew at the time of buying that the two curtains likely wouldn’t work together, and, tongiht, after cutting a few sample pieces, the truth of that was confirmed.
No matter. I will hunt through Goodwill and other thrift stores again and see what I can find. If I can’t find anything else, I can make the dress out of the feature fabric; it is beautiful enough that I would wear a dress made from it. It has a gray base with faint, interspersed and overlapping white lines. This is a backdrop for a pattern that feels reminiscent of paisley but is definitely something else. I’m not sure if it has a name, but it is a sort of sprouting garden in this navy-gray blue. Simple leaves and vines, flowers sprouting from, abstract designs hovering around what look like tulips. I think it is gorgeous and interesting to look at, even if I don’t know the pattern’s name. In whatever case, it is exactly what I sought and it is the prefect base for my dress. Inexpensive, beautiful, and of the color palette I aimed for. I am excited to find more fabric to go with it and I am excited to start sewing!
